In 2004, a group of individuals living in Ocean Pines began to meet regularly to share a common interest in photography. Some were new to digital photography while others used film cameras. All were interested in digital photo processing on our computers and at commercial sites. Although the name was selected as the “Ocean Pines Camera Club,” we have always welcomed photography enthusiasts from the greater eastern shore area.
We began to meet regularly and to invite professional photographers from the community to speak at our meetings.
In our first year, we met a total of 15 times between October 2004 and June 2005. Additionally, we ran competitions by submitting photographs to the Ocean Pines Forum Web site.
In our second year, we met a total of 15 times between October 2005 and May 2006. We also set dues at $20/year. We participated in a number of local photographic activities, developed a member's fact sheet, and surveyed members needs and interests.
In the third year, we met a total of 8 times between October 2006 and May 2007. We also worked with the Art League of Ocean City to develop a basis for photography to be accepted as an equal with other two-dimensional art forms (paintings, collage, etc.).
We are now in our eighth year of operation and are meeting monthly. We continue to pursue all of the activities that were begun in the early years of the club in addition to conducting field trips, providing technical training for members and engaging in numerous other photography related activities.
